Joel Wilson

Founder, President and Optimization Specialist

Joel Wilson is a collection system planning specialist and industry leader in optimization. He has over 15 years of diverse experience in wastewater collection systems modeling, calibration, strategic planning, alternatives analysis, and optimization. He currently provides services to customers in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.

In 2006, Optimatics engaged Joel to lead the development and implementation of their wastewater optimization software – Optimizer WCSTM. During the ensuing five years, Joel led the wastewater master-planning arm of Optimatics and specialized in the analysis and delivery of wastewater master plans using Optimizer WCS and its genetic algorithm (GA) approach.

In 2011, Joel founded WCS Engineering, an independent company specializing in the application of Optimatics technology. He has completed more projects using Optimizer WCS than anyone else worldwide and is regarded as the industry-leading specialist in this field. Joel has an excellent record of consistent and reliable project delivery through effective teaming with other industry professionals.

Over the course of his career, Joel has worked with leading utilities, consultants, and professional affiliations to develop industry best practices. He has played a significant role in helping utilities communicate the benefits of optimized plans to community stakeholders and has helped to develop overflow consent agreements using an effects-based approach to master planning.
